Clarence Pottschmidt
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Clarence Carl Pottschmidt, 84, Brownstown, died at 2 a.m. Friday, Dec. 21, 2007, at his residence.
Mr. Pottschmidt was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Brownstown, and was a member of Fellowship Club. He served on the Student Aid Fund and Board of Elders, was a trustee, served on the Building Committee of the Parsonage, was a member of Lutheran Laymen’s League, a former member of the Board of Directors of Farm Bureau, Board of Directors of Farm Bureau Co-op, Board of Producers Marketing Associations and Board of Farmers Home Administration.
He served as a Jackson County Commissioner, served on the Jackson County Hospital Board, operated Jersey Dale Dairy in Brownstown for several years and was a self-employed farmer.
He also was employed at the Indiana State Highway Department and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of American Legion Post 112, Brownstown, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1925, Seymour. He will always be remembered for his sense of humor.
Born Dec. 26, 1922, in Jackson County, he was the son of Carl Pottschmidt and Ida Sierp Pottschmidt, both of whom preceded him in death. On April 11, 1948, at St. John’s Sauers, he married Dorothy Darlage Pottschmidt, who survives.
Other survivors include three daughters, Pam (David) Spurgeon, Freetown, Vickie (Ray) Gilbert, Seymour, and Bonnie (Stan) Schuerman, Riverview, Fla.; six grandchildren, Andrea (Brad) Pendleton, Lindsey (Drew) Schepman, Matt Spurgeon, Tyler (Baylea) Schuerman, Mandy Schuerman, and Quinton Schuerman; three stepgrandchildren, Rachel Gilbert, Sarah Gilbert and Curtis Gilbert; and a great-grandchild, Lane Pendleton.
He was preceded in death by a son, Max Keith Pottschmidt, and two sisters, Edna Hehman and Wilma Niewedde.
The Rev. Jack Belk will conduct funeral services at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Brownstown. Burial will take place at St. Peter’s Lutheran Cemetery, Brownstown.
Friends may call from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday at Zabel Funeral Home, Brownstown, and from 9 a.m. until time of service Monday at the church.
Memorials may be given to St. Peter’s Student Aid Fund, Lutheran Hour or donor’s choice.
