Saving money with Robo Trash called ‘garbage'

To the Editor:

Saving money through Robo Trash is ‘garbage’

I am always ready to try something new if it may be better, save money, time or better the community, so I have waited before I formed an opinion on the new Robo Trash system.

In all, it sounded like a good idea, I understood how it could save money and create additional man-hours to work on other city projects.

After this week’s trash pickup, I have changed my mind.

I had my newly issued Robo Trash can parked on the curb as instructed along with a regular trash can of some yard waste (marked on the can), along with a large cardboard box a flat-screen TV came in.

Robo Trash picked up the special can, the old city trash truck came by and picked up the yard waste, looked at the box and decided to leave it. The city truck and wagon that picks up recycle items stopped, got out of the truck and inspected the box and then left also.
Three different vehicles with three crews could not get the job done.

It’s only a cardboard box. Why is the decision to take it so hard? The box is soaked from the rain and still at the curb. If we think we are saving money and doing a better job, that’s “garbage” in my opinion.
