Oct. 1 marked the beginning of Pro-life Month for the entire country, a recent press release stated.

On Sept. 27, some members of the Jennings County pro-life group in North Vernon assembled to put up a lawn display on the property at St. Mary’s Church on Washington Street. The display is meant to represent the number of babies who have been lost to abortion since 1973. More than 30 volunteers stepped off and pounded 600 crosses into the rain-softened ground.

The press release cited the following statistical information from NRLC.org and Guttmacher.org:

600 babies per month in Indiana

In the United States the crosses represent:

3,600 daily, six babies per cross

115,000 monthly, 192 babies per cross

1,390,000 annually, 2,317 babies per cross

More than 50,000,000 since 1973, 83,333 babies per cross

The lawn display will remain on the site for the month of October. Every Monday during October at 7:15 p.m., there will be a brief prayer service at the “Field of Crosses.”

All are invited to attend. For further information, contact Carolyn Doxsee at cmdoxsee@ comcast.net.
