The Jackson County Relay for Life event is Friday at Seymour Middle School with teams coming together to raise money by walking laps for the American Cancer Society.

This year’s theme is “Lights! Camera! Relay for a Cure!” Teams can begin setting up campsites at 9 a.m. Check-in begins at 5 p.m., and the opening ceremony is at 6 p.m. The event wraps up at midnight.

Anyone is welcome to walk to support cancer survivors and honor loved ones who have died from the disease.

Entertainment during the event will include the Seymour High School Marching Owls and Immanuel Lutheran School choir and cheerleaders.

This year’s Survivor Celebration will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the Hope Lodge Tent at the track during the event. Survivors are encouraged to register online at relayforlife.org/jacksoncountyin to ensure a shirt in the correct size or arrive onsite by 5:30 p.m. for registration.

Survivors also are invited to participate in the survivor lap, followed by the caregiver lap during the opening ceremony at 6 p.m.

The annual luminary ceremony will begin at 9:30 p.m., followed by a “Fight Back” ceremony at 10 p.m.

A closing ceremony will be at 11:30 p.m.
