A 48 year old Jennings County man faces preliminary felony charges of robbery and criminal confinement in connection with an incident Friday morning in North Vernon.

Anthony Menendez of North Vernon was arrested on those charges and misdemeanor charges of theft and battery after the incident reported at a restaurant in the first block of East Main Street, according to a news release from the North Vernon Police Department.

That arrest stems from an investigation that started when police received a report of battery at the restaurant.

Sgt. Andrew Richmond responded and learned that during the battery, the suspect had stolen the battered person’s cellphone and fled.

After reviewing security video, police discovered the suspect, later identified as Menendez, had fled in a silver car believed to be a Kia Rio, police said.

While patrolling in the area of Oakwood Drive, Richmond located a silver Kia Rio at a residence and Menendez, who matched the description of the suspect.

Menendez was arrested and booked into the Jennings County Jail at 1:50 p.m. Tuesday.

The robbery charge is a Level 5 felony, punishable by one to six years in prison upon conviction. The criminal confinement charge is a Level 6 felony punishable by six months to two and a half years in prison upon conviction.
