AUSTIN — A 29-year-old Scott County man accused of shooting his stepfather to death and wounding a second man Sunday afternoon faces murder and attempted murder charges, police say.

According to a report from the Indiana State Police at Sellersburg, Jason F. Uhlenbrock of Austin was visiting his mother and stepfather at their residence at 3927 Bogardus Road near Austin when the shootings occurred. Those shootings were reported at 4:16 p.m. Sunday.

Officers arriving at the scene reported finding the stepfather, Robin L. Everitt, 59, dead and asecond man injured from a shot in the stomach area, Sgt. Jerry Goodin of the ISP said Sunday night. That man was flown to University of Louisville Hospital by air ambulance.

During their initial investigation, police were told that the shootings occurred inside the residence and that Uhlenbrock was a suspect.

Police said Uhlenbrock left the scene after the shootings on a bicycle but was detained shortly after the 911 call was made by officers near Bogardus Road and Indiana 256, about one mile from the crime scene.

Police said they continue to look for the reason behind the shootings.

Uhlenbrock was taken to the Scott County Jail in Scottsburg to await his initial hearing.
