BROWNSTOWN — Two arrests have been made in connection with recent burglaries in the area, including one at Brownstown Elementary School last week.

According to a press release from Tom Wright of Brownstown Police Department, that department and the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department joined forces to solve a series of burglaries that have occurred in the Brownstown area.

Police say Kyle David Probizanski, 18, Freetown, who has been staying in the Brownstown area, was arrested on three counts of burglary, Class C felony, three counts of theft, Class D felony, and three counts of criminal mischief, Class A misdemeanor, for the burglaries of Gifts Galore on Dec. 9 and Vallonia Gas and Grocery and Dr. Gordon Newlin’s dentist office in Brownstown. The last two both occurred Wednesday. According to information from the Jackson County Jail, Probizanski was brought in at 11:02 a.m. Thursday and was still being held Thursday evening on $10,005 bond.

A 17-year-old juvenile was arrested on four counts of burglary, Class C felony, four counts theft, Class D felony, one count criminal mischief, Class C felony, and three counts criminal mischief, Class A misdemeanor. The juvenile is charged with the burglaries of Brownstown Elementary School and Gifts Galore on Dec. 9 and Vallonia Gas and Grocery and Newlin’s office in Brownstown on Wednesday.

Evidence recovered by Wright, John Long, Sheriff’s Detectives Rick Blaker Jr., Bob Lucas, Rob Henley and Deputy Rick Meyer led officers to the two suspects, the press release stated.

Probizanski was brought in and interviewed by Henley, and the juvenile was brought in by a parent and interviewed by Henley and Wright.

Afterward, both the adult and juvenile were arrested for their involvement in the break-ins.

Wright was assisted by Lucas and Henley in the gathering of evidence at Brownstown Elementary, Gifts Galore and Newlin’s office.

Lucas and Henley gathered the evidence at Vallonia, then a meeting of the two departments was held to compile the evidence, develop suspects and locate property taken.

The cases are still open and under investigation and may lead to additional charges and other suspects, and may possibly link other thefts in the area, police said.

Probizanski is currently being held at the Jackson County Jail awaiting his initial hearing and the juvenile is in the Jackson County Juvenile Detention Center awaiting a hearing.

Anyone who may have further information on any of the break-ins that have occurred recently is asked to call the Brownstown Police Department at 358-2345 or the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department at 358-2141.
