FREETOWN — A Freetown man was arrested Thursday night after a car chase with Jackson County Sheriff’s Department officers.

Police said Robert L. Taylor Jr., 28, was arrested Thursday for an outstanding warrant out of Jackson Circuit Court for failure to appear, resisting law enforcement with a vehicle, a Class D felony; habitual traffic violator, a Class D felony; resisting law enforcement, a Class A misdemeanor; and possession of paraphernalia, a Class a misdemeanor. A glass methamphetamine pipe was found on Taylor during the arrest, police said.

The arrest was made after Jackson County Officer Adam Nicholson became engaged in a vehicle pursuit at 10:19 p.m. Thursday after he tried to stop a gray 1991 Dodge pickup for a registration infraction, according to a press release.

The pursuit began when the officer activated his emergency lights and the vehicle took off at a high rate of speed eastbound on County Road 200N, police said.

Jackson County Officer Rick Meyer was in the area and became the secondary unit involved in the chase.

Near the 7000 block West of County Road 200N, the pickup turned South onto a grass lane and drove into a field.

Nicholson and Meyer continued the chase into the field, and the driver jumped out of the vehicle and ran on foot. The driver was caught a short distance later, according to the release.

Also assisting with the arrest was Jackson County Detective Rob Henley, Jackson County Officer Dustin Steward and Jackson County Reserve Officer Toby Ortman.
