3 arrested in theft of gas from fire department
BROWNSTOWN - Three men have been arrested in connection with the recent theft of gasoline and fuel cans from Brownstown Volunteer Fire Department.
Brownstown Police Department, during a three-month investigation, gathered enough information in the thefts to obtain Jackson Circuit Court arrest warrants charging theft against Jonathan Spurgeon, 20, Christopher Hammond, 19, and Jonathan Roll, 19, all of Brownstown.
Spurgeon and Hammond were arrested by Brownstown police officers on March 19, and Roll was arrested that day by Seymour officers after receiving information on Roll's whereabouts, according to a news release issued Tuesday by Officer Tom Wright.
Hammond and Roll were members of the fire department at the time the thefts occurred and had access to the station, which is always locked, police said.
All three were booked into the Jackson County Jail and later released after posting $1,000 cash bonds each and are awaiting trial.
