After receiving autopsy information concerning Jacob M. Lord, 2, of Austin, an Indiana State Police investigation into his death is now a homicide investigation, the ISP says.

According to a press release from Sgt. Jerry Goodin of the Sellersburg Post, the autopsy was conducted Thursday afternoon and the Kentucky Medical Examiner’s Office in Louisville “was able to determine the preliminary cause of death.”

No further details on the cause of death were available Friday night.

According to an earlier press release from the Sellersburg Post, the child was pronounced dead at Kosair Children’s Hospital in Louisville early Wednesday evening.

Police said Thursday that Lord’s mother first took the boy to Scott Memorial Hospital with life-threatening injuries. The child was later transferred to a Louisville hospital, where he died.

Scott County Department of Child Services first reported the incident to the Indiana State Police. Austin police and the Scott County prosecutor’s office also were investigating.
