Pursuit ends in arrest

Driver accused of theft of medication

An incident that began with the alleged theft of medication from a pharmacy in Hanover on Saturday ended at a roadblock in Jennings County, police report.


According to a report from the Jennings County Sheriff's Department, Berry Kerr of Kentucky was arrested after the vehicle he was driving was disabled when it hit stop sticks on Indiana 3 near County Road 500S.


Kerr, who was accused of taking several bottles of prescription medication from a CVS Pharmacy in Hanover, was taken into custody after his car was stopped. Kerr also was wanted on similar charges out of Kentucky.


Before his arrest, police say he led officers with the Hanover Police Department and Jefferson County Sheriff's Department on a high-speed pursuit along Indiana 3 north of Blocher in northern Jefferson County.


Jennings County police and officers with North Vernon were told of the pursuit, in which speeds reached in excess of 130 miles per hour.


Jennings County officers responded south on Indiana 3 and Indiana 7 while North Vernon set up a perimeter in Vernon before Kerr's capture.


Hanover police are investigating the theft and subsequent pursuit.
