Blaze destroys barn, hay
Comments 0 | Recommend 0BROWNSTOWN - Four Jackson County fire departments fought a blaze that destroyed a barn-type structure in the Brownstown area Monday afternoon.
According to a report from Jackson County Detective Bob Lucas, the fire was reported at 1233 N. 150W by owner Fred Pottschmidt at 1:16 p.m. Tuesday.
Lucas said he could see smoke from the fire as he left the Jackson County Jail in Brownstown, and when he arrived on the scene, Lucas said the metal and wood structure was engulfed in flames.
Pottschmidt told police he had just placed more than 600 bales of hay in the barn on Monday.
Lucas said he asked the occupants of a nearby home to leave for their safety while firefighters fought the blaze.
Firefighters from Brownstown, Hamilton, Pershing and Driftwood township fire departments responded to the scene, and Lucas was assisted by county detectives Rick Blaker Jr. and Rob Henley as well as county Officer Tom Barker, off-duty county Officer Ben Rudolph and Brownstown Officer Tom Hanner.
