3 Republicans win as Democrats fail to complete slate
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Jackson County Republicans won three offices Thursday without a vote being cast.
That's because the deadline to fill vacancies on the ballot passed with Democrats failing to field candidates for county auditor, county treasurer and Superior Court I judge.
That means Auditor Debbie Eggeman and Treasurer Kathy Hohenstreiter will be re-elected to second terms this fall. It also means that Judge Bruce Markel III will be elected this fall to the position he was appointed to two years ago when Democrat Frank Guthrie retired from the superior court.
The Republican slate was filled in the spring primary election.
"I think it's a reflection
on the excellent performance of all three of these individuals," GOP Party Chairman Dennis Carmichael said Monday of the openings on the Democratic ticket.
Friday was the deadline for party officials to notify county clerks of their intention to fill ballot vacancies.
Voters will go to the polls Nov. 4 to elect candidates to offices from the courthouse to the statehouse and from the halls of Congress to the White House.
Carr Township residents will also vote on trustees for Medora Community School Board. Three seats are up for election this year.
Anyone interested in running for the school board has until noon Aug. 22 to file a declaration of candidacy with the Jackson County clerk's office at Brownstown.
To register to vote for the fall election, call the voter registration office at 358-6120. The deadline to register to vote is at the close of business Oct. 6.
