Arrest made in OD death

An investigation into the October 2007 death of a Seymour man led to an arrest.

Jackson County Detective Rob Henley said investigators believe Isaiah Wilds, 23, North Vernon, may have provided a Schedule II controlled substance to Michael Wayne Wilson, 46, who died of an accidental overdose of a painkiller at the rural Seymour home of a family member on the night of Oct. 5, 2007.

Wilds faces a charge of dealing in a Schedule II controlled substance, a class B felony, punishable by prison term of six to 20 years.

Henley said no autopsy was performed, but Coroner Andy Rumph's report shows the cause of death as acute fentanyl overdose and that it was accidental. The mechanism of death was listed as a fentanyl patch, and the time of death was listed as 11:15 p.m. on Oct. 5.

Fentanyl is a pain killer used as an anesthesia for surgeries and as a chronic pain killer.

Henley said investigators tied Wilds through phone records and records tracking the sale of fentanyl. He was first interviewed by police in November.

Wilds was booked into Jackson County Jail at 10:41 p.m. Thursday and was being held on a $50,000 bond Friday.
