Area roads still slick

County and state roads in the area remained slick Wednesday morning.

Mike Garris of Jackson County Highway Department said county "roads are still slick" after a night of drifting.

Interstate 65 was closed earlier this morning in the Taylorsville area in Bartholomew County, Sgt. Robert Hedger of the Indiana State Police added.

"There are still slick spots with the drifting," Hedger said. "There was still a lot of snow on Indiana 11 when I came to work this morning."

Although drifting of snow caused some problems, it wasn't as bad as anticipated, Garris said.

"The wind eased up, so that helped a lot," Garris said. "We just had minor drifting after that, maybe around 10 o'clock last night."

National Weather Service observer Ruth Everhart said the area received about 2.5 inches of new snow Tuesday. That snow was light and powdery, which aloud it to whip around in the wind and drift easily, Garris said Tuesday.

Hedger said southbound lanes of I-65 were closed around 4:40 a.m. today when a semi jack-knifed but was later reopened.

Brownstown Central Community Schools, Medora Community Schools and Trinity Lutheran High School were on two-hour delays today because of the drifting.

Crothersville Community Schools closed today because of the weather and road conditions.

Seymour Community Schools was scheduled off today because of parent-teacher conferences.
