Drug drop-off program set
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Jackson County residents may drop off unnecessary or out-of-date drugs during the semi-annual Drug Drop-Off on May 16 and May 17 under supervision of law-enforcement officers.
Jackson County Solid Waste Management District, Jackson County Public Library, Schneck Medical Center and AARP are sponsoring this event in cooperation with the Brownstown and Seymour police departments and the Brownstown Library.
Justin Brown, a pharmacist at Schneck Medical Center, will be at the Seymour Library drop-off to answer questions. He is a 2002 graduate of Butler University and is a member of various committees at the hospital.
Drugs should not be thrown in the trash, flushed down the drain or burned in the open because they may cause accidental death, can contaminate the drinking or ground water, may kill bacteria in sewage treatment plants and septic systems, may be scavenged from trash receptacles and illegally sold or release toxic pollutants into the air.
The committee asks participants to drop expired and unused pharmaceuticals off in their original containers, if possible, so they can be easily identified for safe disposal.
