Woman faces drug charges following fight

An investigation into a report of a fight on Sunday afternoon in the Kessler Park area of Seymour led to the arrest of a woman on at least five drug-related charges, police say.

“We were called to that area by a neighbor,” Detective Capt. Carl Lamb said of the incident that led to the arrest of Tammy S. Bowling of Seymour.

Lamb said the incident was reported at 2:46 p.m. Sunday and initially was reported as a fight. The caller also said someone was yelling for help, Lamb said.

During the investigation, Lamb said Officer James Handley and others responding were able to determine Bowling had been fighting with a 13-year-old relative at her residence in the 700 block of East Brown Street. The youth did not live with Bowling but was visiting, Lamb said.

While investigating that incident, Lamb said, police found methamphetamine, marijuana, some prescription medication and drug paraphernalia in Bowling’s residence.

Bowling was arrested and booked into Jackson County Jail in Brownstown on potential charges of battery on a child under the age of 14, possession of methamphetamine within 1,000 feet of a park, possession of marijuana less than 30 grams, possession of a Schedule IV controlled substance, possession of a hypodermic needle and possession of paraphernalia.

Bowling was being held on a $50,005 bond Monday.
