Charges sought in June stabbing

Police anticipate char-ges against a 27-year-old man accused of stabbing, slicing or cutting a Seymour woman at least 14 times in a June 28 attack.

The man fled the scene after the incident, reported on Cherry Circle Drive at Kimberly Mobile Home Park, but police do not believe he has fled the area, Detective C.J. Foster said Monday.

The woman, 26, was treated for wounds to her face, head, neck, shoulders and back at Schneck Medical Center the night of the attack and later flown by air ambulance to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

"She has been released," Foster said.

Foster said police have a possible motive for the attack but are not ready to release that information or a description of the attacker.

He said he plans to forward the case to the Jackson County prosecutor's office and is asking for charges of attempted murder, a Class A felony; aggravated battery, a Class B felony; and criminal recklessness, a Class C felony.

Foster said the victim and the suspect were acquaintances. A second woman and a child were in the residence during the attack, but they were not injured, Foster said.
