Club plans week of fun

Comments 0

Spring break may be over for Seymour students, but the fun is just beginning at the Boys & Girls Club.

Beginning Monday, the organization will celebrate national Boys & Girls Club Week with a different theme each day.

Special activities will kick off at 4 p.m. Monday with a spelling bee, magic show and ice cream social. Kids are encouraged to dress up in clothes from their favorite decade.

Also on Monday, the club will present its annual Youth of the Year award. This year’s recipient is Seymour High School student Myka Hays.

On Tuesday, kids can show their spirit for the club by wearing a Boys & Girls Club T-shirt. The club will be host for a public open house from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., when it will showcase some of the technology it offers members.

To thank local supporters and club staff, members will create thank you cards at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday and then can play bingo at 5:30 p.m.

Wednesday is Sports Day and activities will include a games room tournament, talent show, cupcake decorating contest and a free-throw contest.

Break out the cowboy hats and boots for Wild Wild West Day on Thursday. Kids will be treated to a carnival complete with cupcake walk, face painting, ring toss, the Grand Prize Game and animal masks. At 5:30 p.m. Thursday, there will be a pet show.

To wrap up the week Friday, members should wear sweat pants for Sweats Day. Activities will include Silly Snapshots at 4 p.m. and a movie and popcorn event at 4:30 p.m.

The club is at 950 N. O’Brien St., behind Seymour Middle School.
