Indiana Conservation officers are investigating the death of Bedford resident Tim Hanners.

Witnesses reported Hanners was floating on an inflatable raft in the White River near Leatherwood Creek, less than a mile from Indiana 37 in Lawrence County.

Hanners was last seen on the raft around 4:30 a.m. Wednesday. At 10:20 a.m. Wednesday, friends of Hanners contacted the Lawrence County Sheriff's department and reported him missing.

Indiana Conservation officers arrived on the scene and began recovery efforts. Conservation officer divers entered the water and began to search for Hanners' body while other officers began to search the river with side scan sonar.

Divers located Hanners at 1:05 p.m. Wednesday.

Hanners was not wearing a life jacket, conservation police said.
