A wreck Saturday sent three local residents to the hospital with various injuries.

Christopher A. Hickman, 26, of Vallonia sustained severe head and leg injuries and was taken from Schneck Medical Center in Seymour to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis by Jackson County Emergency Medical Service, Jackson County Sheriff's Department reported Sunday.

His condition was not available, police said.

According to a report from Jackson County Officer Tom Barker, the wreck occurred when Hickman failed to make a turn in his 1988 Jeep Comanche on County Road 275N at Lake Leslie and traveled across the roadway, hitting head-on a 2009 Chevrolet Malibu being driven by Walter Hutchinson, 66, of Seymour.

Seymour Fire Department responded with the Jaws of Life to free Hutchinson from the vehicle. Hutchinson and his passenger, Teresa Hutchinson, 63, of Seymour, were taken to Schneck Medical Center where they were treated and listed in stable condition.

Both vehicles were destroyed.

The collision remains under investigation by the sheriff's department.

Assisting at the scene were Jackson County Officer Rick Meyer, reserves Rick Hirtzel and Steve Murphy, Indiana State Police and Jackson-Washington Volunteer Fire Department.
