Meth lab found in Jennings shed
VERNON — Jennings County Sheriff’s Department discovered a methamphetamine lab hidden in a shed in Bigger Township on Monday.
Charges are expected to result from the investigation, Maj. Jerry Shepherd said in a news release.
Deputies were on County Road 250S in Bigger Township from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. conducting an investigation into an active methamphetamine lab.
Officers found an old shed that contained a meth manufacturing lab thought to be operated by a person already in jail on a charge of possession of meth, police said.
The front door of the shed had been nailed shut, but officers found a small opening in the rear of the shed that allowed access by crawling through into an open area. The complete lab was found inside that area, police said.
The Indiana State Police Meth Suppression Unit sent officers to assist in its dismantling.
Inside the building was a liquid propane tank that had been converted and was full of anhydrous ammonia. Also found were many precursors and items associated with the manufacture of methamphetamine.
The investigation that led to the lab was conducted by Deputy Alan Ritchie. Assisting were Shepherd and Lt. Brian Talkington.
