NORMAN - A Bedford man was listed in serious but stable condition this morning after wrecking the motorcycle he was riding Tuesday near Norman.

Jackson County Officer Dustin Steward's report said Clarence W. Johnson Jr., 51, was driving his 1982 Harley west in the 12000 block of Indiana 58 when it left the road.

There were no witnesses to the wreck, Steward said, but three motorists came upon the scene and administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation to Johnson, who was thrown from the motorcycle.

Those witnesses, Marylou Campbell, Jeremy Kopp and Ryan Ward, told police Johnson stopped breathing several times.

Emergency personnel arriving at the scene were able to determine that Johnson needed to be flown to a hospital because of head trauma he suffered in the wreck, Steward said.

Johnson was treated by Jackson County Emergency Medical Services workers and taken to Indiana 135 and Indiana 58 south of Freetown where he was taken by PHI Dove Flight helicopter, North Vernon, to University of Louisville Hospital.

Steward was assisted by county Officer Tom Barker, troopers with the Indiana State Police Post and medical personnel and firefighters with Pershing Township Fire Department.
