    Group eyes Brownstown's future

BROWNSTOWN - The first formal meeting of a task force aimed at becoming a positive force for Brownstown will be held at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at Town Hall.

"Our goal is to enhance the quality of life in our community," said Linda McCormick, who is one of the organizers of the task force dubbed Brownstown Development.

McCormick said she has watched the work of similar organizations in other cities such as Indianapolis and what they have been able to accomplish.

"This has been a dream of mine for several years," McCormick said.

McCormick said she spoke with Leroy Warren, president of the town council, about the idea in January, and he told her he liked it.

Since then, McCormick has been putting together the task force, which includes business operators, educators, the police chief, a Realtor and church leaders.

She said she'd also like to add a school board member, an attorney and a Habitat for Humanity representative.

The task force plans to discuss ideas about potential projects in the county seat but wants more community input.

"We want to include the entire community in the process," McCormick said. "We will take every idea seriously."

That includes attempting to measure community support for any proposals, she said.

McCormick said the community is changing and not all the changes are good.

    Suggestions/Information

Individuals interested in participating in the process may submit written suggestions and areas they would like to see considered to Linda McCormick, Brownstown Development, P.O. Box 293, Brownstown, IN 47220 or call 358-2793.
