2 drug arrests made as police check welfare report on child
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Two Seymour residents face drug charges after an incident involving a "young" child found running alone in the street in the Rockford area Wednesday night, police said this morning.
According to a report from Indiana State Trooper Derrek Simpson, Barbara Clark, 43, and Larry D. Bearry, 52, both of the 200 block East Reddington Road, face charges of possession of methamphetamine less than 30 grams, possession of marijuana less than three grams, possession of paraphernalia, neglect of a dependent and maintaining a common nuisance after the incident, reported around 9:30 p.m.
The incident began when troopers responded to a call about a welfare check involving a young child who was found in the road in the area by the caller. That individual said he nearly ran over the child, police said.
The caller said he then tried to take the child home but had trouble getting anyone to come to the door of the home, occupied by Clark and Bearry, police reported.
The caller also described the reaction of the occupants of the residence to the child nearly being struck as being "insignificant," police said.
Troopers responding to the incident said they saw drug paraphernalia inside the residence while knocking at the door.
During a search of the residence, police said they collected marijuana, methamphetamine and paraphernalia.
Clark and Bearry were booked into the Jackson County Jail late Wednesday. Bearry posted a $1,000 bond at 1:35 a.m. today and was released while Clark remained in jail on a $1,000 bond.
A case report will be forwarded to the Jackson County prosecutor's office as well as to Jackson County's Division of Child Services for review, police said.
Simpson was assisted by Trooper Dennis Simcoe and Master Trooper Marty Mead.
