Man held on child molesting charges

VERNON - A North Vernon man was arrested Friday morning at a residence in DuPont on three counts of child molesting.

Nathan J. Porter, 32, is accused of having molested a 10-year-old Jennings County girl about six years ago, Indiana State Police Sgt. Donald Gregory said.

A news release from Gregory said that Detective Jan Graves with the Seymour Post received information last March making the allegations against Porter.

But officers learned just recently that the victim told a family member she had been molested, police said.

It was alleged Porter, after gaining the young girl's trust, molested her on more than one occasion. The abuse ended after Porter moved away, police said.

Jennings County Chief Deputy Prosecutor Drew Dickerson reviewed the criminal case turned in by Graves and formally requested an arrest warrant through the Jennings County Circuit Court for three counts of child molesting, all Class A felonies.

The arrest was made by Graves and Detective Roger Drew. Porter was taken to the Jennings County Jail.
