Seymour OKs paving Burkart project from U.S. 50 to O'Brien

Seymour Board of Public Works and Safety approved final plans for a maintenance project to repave Burkart Boulevard.

The project approved Thursday calls for resurfacing Burkart from U.S. 50 or Tipton Street to North O'Brien Street.

The city is expecting to fund the work through federal economic stimulus money.

Jason Fee of Jaansen & Spaans Engineering in Columbus said total construction costs would be $470,000, with bid-letting to take place in September.

Also Thursday, Seymour Board of Public Works and Safety:

-- Approved a request from Kelly Stephens on behalf of St. Ambrose Catholic Church to close South Street between Carter and Chestnut streets for a church party from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday to honor Father Todd Goodson.

-- Agreed to close downtown streets for the annual Oktoberfest as well as other city streets for the festival's 5K run and parade and the B & O parking lot for carnival ride set up.

-- Approved a request from Police Chief Bill Abbott for a heating ventilation and air conditioning maintenance contract renewal with Dunlap & Co. for the police station.

-- Approved a request from Jeff Vance, parks and recreation director, to close downtown streets for the annual Cars & Guitars event the weekend on June 28, 2010.

-- Approved a request for a 6-month contract extension for janitorial services for City Hall from Clean Right.

-- Approved a request for sewer connection from Andrew Skaggs for 5240 Addie Lane.

-- Agreed to renew the city's contract with Humane Society of Jackson County. The contract calls for an additional $10,000 from the city, an amount the city approved last year and went into affect in January 2009.
