Jackson County Public Library sponsored a Read Beyond Reality writing contest in honor of Teen Read Week Oct. 11 through Oct. 17.

Teens in grades five through 12 were encouraged to submit an essay, short story, poem or video recording of what Read Beyond Reality means to them.

Winners for best written work are Savannah Smith for her essay entitled “Read Beyond Reality” and Brooke Zike for her short story entitled “The Getaway.” Joshua Bederaux-Cayne, Derek Couch, Faith Mysak and Jesse Mysak won for their movie entitled “Friend or Foe?”

Winners received a library book bag filled with candy, bookmarks, a library lanyard, a water bottle and a 2009 Teen Read Week Writing Contest certificate.

For information, contact the Seymour Library’s Kidz Korner at 522-3412, option 1.

    Reader Comments
From the editor: Many of you have expressed concerns about some of the harsh anonymous comments from readers. To remedy that, we are introducing new features. You can create your own blog, publish your news and share your photos with the community. Once you fill out a simple form and leave a verifiable e-mail address, you can set up your profile page. It will display all of your contributions and allow you to track issues and easily connect with others.

We want our site to be a place where people discuss and debate ideas that foster stronger communities. We built this for you. Please take care of it. Tolerate broad thinking, but take action against obscene or hateful material. Make it a credible and safe place worth preserving and sharing.
