BROWNSTOWN - A Brownstown man arrested last week in connection with a fire set at a Seymour home now faces seven charges.

Jarrod Reynolds, 33, Brownstown, was preliminarily charged with one count of attempted murder after he was accused of setting fire to a home on South Park Drive while seven people were inside.

At Reynolds' initial hearing Friday in Jackson Circuit Court, Reynolds was also charged with a second count of attempted murder, two counts of arson, one count of burglary and two counts of intimidation.

The attempted murder charges are Class A felonies. The two arson and burglary counts are Class B felonies and the two intimidation charges are Class D felonies.

Senior Judge James Kleopfer of Scott County, sitting in for Jackson Circuit Judge Bill Vance, ordered a trial date of Feb. 17 for Reynolds.

Reynolds was arrested early Aug. 19 after a witness told police Reynolds was seen dumping a liquid on a house in the 300 block of South Park Drive and igniting it.

Police said Reynolds told them during an interrogation that he set the fire.Police said the incident is believed to be a result of an ongoing dispute between Reynolds and a former girlfriend. She had apparently been visiting at the South Park Drive home. She did not live there.

The two attempted murder charges involve two different people - a man and a woman - who were inside the home where the fire was started, according to court records.

Those two victims are also the victims listed in the two counts of intimidation. Reynolds is accused of threatening to kill them.

The two arson charges involve setting fire to the house and because of heat damage to a neighboring residence.

The burglary charge involves Reynolds being accused of breaking into the home where he's accused of starting the fire.

Reynolds' former girlfriend was not a resident of either house.
