4 seek GOP nod in 9th District
Comments 0 | Recommend 0The field of Republicans seeking the nomination to challenge for Indiana’s 9th District congressional seat is officially up to four.
The Democratic field remained at one as a result of heavy snowfall in Washington, D.C.
Canceled flights out of Washington prevented Indiana incumbent Rep. Baron Hill from filing for re-election as scheduled Monday afternoon.
Instead, the Seymour Democrat will file by mail with the Indiana Secretary of State’s Office before the Feb. 19 deadline for federal candidates, his press officer, Katie Moreau, said Monday.
Four Republicans have filed for the 9th District nomination, according to the Secretary of State’s Web site: Travis Hankins, Mike Sodrel, Rick Warren and Todd Young.
That was according to a posting just before 3 p.m. Monday.
Hill also will not be able to return to Indiana later this week as he is scheduled to leave on a military trip overseas to visit soldiers, including Hoosier troops, and learn more about ongoing operations in the U.S. war on terror, Moreau said.
“Details of the trip cannot be released right now per the military’s request,” she added.
Hill will be the second Democrat to file for the 9th District nomination. Lendall B. Terry filed as a Democrat earlier.
Voter registration
Deadline for Hoosiers to register to vote or change their voter registration address for the May 4 primary and school board elections is April 5. For information about how to register, call the Jackson County clerk’s office: 358-6120.
Hoosiers may also register at license branches.
