Town considers purchase of police station

Comments 0

CROTHERSVILLE — Town Council members will meet in executive session at 1 p.m. today at the offices of Farrow & Thompson, 113 E. Second St., Seymour.

Council decided to meet in executive or closed session while discussing putting in a bid for property at Preston and Moore streets in Crothersville during its monthly meeting Tuesday night. Council was considering this property as a location for the police department.

Ardell Mitchell, council president, called for an executive session while discussing the property scheduled to be auctioned later this month by Schneck Medical Center.

In addition to discussing placing a bid on the property, council also discussed the former water treatment plant building on Kovener Street as a possible location for the police department.

Police Chief Vurlin McIntosh said the property, owned by the town, would need remodeled to house the police department.

Currently, town hall and the police department are housed in the same building on Howard Street. Council members also discussed the feasibility of relocating the police department and paying for utilities in two buildings instead of one.

Executive sessions are closed to the public and press.
