Man dies in wreck of truck reported stolen

Comments 0

VERNON — A Jennings County man was killed in a one-vehicle wreck early Sunday morning in what police say was stolen pickup.

Jennings County Sheriff’s Department said Joshua L. Bournak, 21, North Vernon, was pronounced dead at the scene after a pickup he was driving left the right side of County Road 300 North west of County Road 500 West around 12:35 a.m. Sunday.

Police said the 1992 Chevrolet pickup, which had been reported stolen from a residence on State Street in North Vernon, traveled about 500 feet after it left the road, flipped over and landed upside down on the road.

Bournak was ejected from the truck and trapped beneath it, police said. He was not wearing a seat belt, police said.

Officers said it appears speed played a role in the wreck.

Investigating the wreck was Deputy Jason Bliton. He was assisted by Maj. Jerry Shepherd, Sgt. Jeff Jones, reserve deputies Mike Mowery and Tom Wininger. Also assisting were Rescue 20, Scipio Geneva Township Fire Department and the Jennings County coroner’s office.
