United Way teams NFL Play 60
Jackson County United Way is teaming with NFL PLAY 60 and United Way worldwide for Back to Football Friday, a campaign to advance youth health and wellness as a national priority.
“We are encouraging fans of all ages to show their NFL team pride at school or work this Friday in celebration of the start of the NFL season and to join our efforts to end childhood obesity,” Executive Director Ruth Ann Rebber said.
Wearing NFL team apparel and colors to school on Friday is intended to be a fun way to transfer the passion of NFL fans to United Way’s work in health.
Child Care Network’s Kids Klub sites will be decorated for football all week. Cummins Seymour Engine Plant and JLM are planning events for Friday as well. JLM will sponsor a tailgate party for employees, and Cummins will have activities during the day.
Girls Inc. of Jackson County and Boys & Girls Club of Seymour are having events together from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at the Boys & Girls Club. Events include a throwing contest, punting contest, water balloon drills, tire run and tailgating of healthy snacks with Schneck Medical Center.
Children participating at Kids Klub, Girls Inc. and Boys & Girls Club have an opportunity to get free tickets to the Seymour High School football game Friday night.
Schools that take it a step further by creating events or activities that celebrate the day can apply to become one of 34 NFL PLAY 60 Super Schools and receive a visit from an NFL player and a $10,000 health and wellness grant. Winners will be selected based on event and activity originality, level of NFL passion and relevance to theme of youth health and wellness.
