Jackson County police continue to investigate an incident in which a motorist struck a pedestrian in the Cortland area early Wednesday and then left the scene.

According to a report from county Reserve Officer Scott Davis, Robert J. Bell, 28, of Seymour was walking east on County Road 800N from Cort Acres at 4887 E. 800N when he was hit by an eastbound vehicle. Bell said the vehicle was possibly a Chevrolet or other General Motors vehicle.

Bell, who was treated for his injuries and released from Schneck Medical Center, told police that a person in a second vehicle, possibly a Toyota Corolla, stopped and checked on him after he was struck.

Anyone with information about the incident, reported at 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, may call the sheriff’s department at 358-2141. Davis said police also would like to speak with the motorist who stopped to check on Bell after he was hit.
