Weekly rewards
Thumbs up to area high school students who carve time from their busy lives to learn lines, run through their rehearsals and stage theater productions such as “Once Upon a Matress” (Trinity Lutheran High School) and “South Pacific” (Seymour High School). The students and their adult advisers and other support people, including classmates who work behind the scenes with staging, lighting and costuming, put in many hours for the community’s enjoyment.

Thumbs up to Jackson County Visitor Center for bringing Khabir Shareef to the center for his interpretation of the capture of Alexander McClure, a runaway slave found in Seymour on April 14, 1860. McClure’s plight makes the visitor center a part of the heritage of the Underground Railroad.

Thumbs up to Brownstown Central High School cheerleaders. The squad qualified for a state competition with its performance in the Indiana Association of Principals cheer competition recently at Greenfield-Central High School.

Thumbs up to Seymour Middle School and Seymour High School cheerleaders. The squads won championship trophies in their respective divisions during a recent JAMfest Regional Cheerleading program at Evenasville.

Thumbs up to the Brownstown Central High School football team. The Braves made it to the sectional final before falling to Paoli last Friday night. The Braves finished 8-4 on the season.
