To the Editor:

Meet with the chief. This is an opportunity most people in Seymour may not be aware of.

On the first Tuesday of every month, the chief of police, Bill Abbott, has an informal sit-down at the Senior Citizens Center next to One Chamber Square. Starting time is 6:30 p.m. and it goes for about an hour.

The chief discusses police issues and the public is encouraged to participate and may discuss specific issues in their neighborhoods or bring potential problems to the chief's attention. He listens to the concerns of the public and tries to address them to the best of his ability. Mrs. Abbott is always there by his side and takes an active part in the meetings.

The meetings are informative and interesting.

In May there was a SWAT team demonstration, in July three K9 teams came in and did a drug search and a criminal apprehension. Chief Abbott put on a padded suit and was the "Bad Guy."

Chief Abbott gives new meaning to "public servant" and Seymour is lucky to have a man of this caliber as "The Chief." If you go, enter by the back door during construction.
