Councilman's judgment on parking 'poor'

While attending a recent Seymour Common Council meeting (July 14), which I do on a regular basis, a proposal was discussed on changing certain streets in the Schneck Medical Center area to no parking or parking on one side of the street only.

Now, I can see this happening, to a certain degree.

But, when it affects residents not parking on the street next to their home or a business having the possibility of losing customers, or for that matter, maybe even the possibility of losing their livelihood altogether, I can't see it. A compromise must be made in this decision.

I, along with others in the crowd, and with other councilmen, were appalled that one councilman, Andy Hagedorn, had no concern at all for residents and a long-standing business that's been there seemingly forever in the proposed area.

I don't wonder what this councilman was thinking, because he just flat wasn't. I wonder what his thoughts would be if the shoe was on his foot. This councilman had no opposition in this last election, but with this frame of mind, surely he will in the next one. If I'm right he was elected to serve for the betterment of all the citizens of this community, not just a select group.

Having said all of the above, this "Sayso" in no way belittles Schneck Medical Center. The expansion and upgrading for quality medical care that they have brought to us is a wonderful thing for this community and southern Indiana and they should be applauded for this. I doubt they agree with this councilman either.
