Become educated on candidates and issues, then go vote
Comments 0 | Recommend 0We encourage Jackson County voters to use the information provided in our election coverage from this spring in print in The Tribune and online at TribTown.com, along with material from elsewhere, to make themselves familiar with the candidates and their stands on the issues. They should then go vote in Tuesday's primary and school board elections.
We use the plural "elections" because there is more than one election. There are the primary elections for Democrats and Republicans seeking their party's nominations.
But there are also school board elections in Crothersville and Seymour. In those cases, there is no tomorrow after Tuesday. Tuesday is Election Day for school board candidates. The elections are nonpartisan and there are no primaries. The winners in Tuesday's school board elections will begin new terms of office in July.
Although there are only a few contested local races, those contests are important for the candidates who have put their names on the ballots. Jackson County residents will choose nominees for coroner on the Democratic ticket and Republicans will vote for county commissioner District 1 and three at-large seats for the county council.
Those races don't appeal to you? Then don't forget that Tuesday is also the presidential primary in Indiana. And this year your vote matters, for the first time since 1968.
Again, become educated on the issues and the candidates, and go vote Tuesday. It's our right and our responsibility.
