Writer opposes use of golf carts on town streets

Comments 0

To the Editor:

I am writing because I do not feel that golf carts or 4-wheelers or children on bikes need to be on the road unless they take a safety course on driving responsibly or riding responsibly.

I have seen many 4-wheelers already on the roads and they are speeding and not stopping at stop signs. I feel that if they do not have headlights and brake lights and do not obey the laws then they have no place on the city streets.

The children who ride bikes should learn how to ride them and obey the laws too. I have seen several children on bikes almost get hit by cars because they are all over the road and not stopping at stop signs.

I feel that our law enforcement has enough other problems with domestic violence, drugs and other problems without having to be a so-called baby sitter for the community of people who just don’t want to obey the laws and get out and speed up and down the town streets of town. There are a lot of little children in Crothersville and sometimes I am a scared for them because so many young drivers are running stop signs or speeding up and down the streets.

I really think the Town Council should reconsider this idea. The old saying goes, you give them an inch and they will take a mile. I believe that to be true in most cases. Golf carts, 4-wheelers and go-carts and children on bikes not obeying the law should not be allowed on city streets, but I am just one person voicing my opinion but for the safety of our little town that I would like to see remain a safe town.
