Response to broken window not acceptable

To the Editor:

On June 22, my wife, sister-in-law and I were traveling down the gravel road along the river.  All of us saw a car in the distance traveling at a high rate of speed.

When the the car came beside us, the driver floored the gas and turned the wheel to the right so all the gravel would fly all over us.  It was so bad I had to stop and all of us had to cover our head and face.

When the car passed, we noticed our windshield was cracked.  My wife called the city police; they said it was a county issue.  We called the county, no one was able to take the call.  We decided to go home.

On our way home, we saw the car that did this.  I pulled over and got their license plate number and called the state police.  After about a half hour, an officer showed up.  The officer surveyed the damage and asked me how much my deductible was.  I said what did it matter.  The officer went ahead, sat in the patrol car and talked to the other people.  After about 5 minutes the officer informed me that there was not enough damage to make a report.  Further, the officer said a piece of gravel hitting another car was an act of God. I don't think God was throwing rocks at our car this day, but it was the fault of the inconsiderate people driving the other car.

As far as the officer involved, I hope they interview a little better when spending tax dollars on future officers' salaries.
