Teaching our children about responsibility

To the Editor:

Saturday afternoon our car's windshield was struck and shattered by a baseball from Teen League teams playing a game at Shields Park across the street.

While inquiring about it, not one person came forward to take responsibility, nor did any player, coach or parent say they even saw it happen. With the exception of a couple of young ladies in the stands who said they heard it hit something but did not know what it hit.

And one commented that they had been hitting a lot of foul balls over to the street.

Having played baseball myself, I know that most players and coaches, and some in the bleachers, saw right where it hit, who hit it and probably made a comment about it.

What are the parents and coaches of these youth teaching these kids?

One coach said that the team or any player would not be responsible anyway, that our insurance would have to pay for it. That's not the point.

I'm just glad my kids are grown and had better coaches as role models, as well as teachers.
