Plenty of music to soothe us all

Comments 0 | Recommend 0

You like music? Who doesn't. Jackson County residents had several opportunities last weekend to enjoy a variety of music, all at no charge.

And there's more in store this weekend with the Fourth of July Music in the Park concert at Shields Park in Seymour.

Who's to thank for all these music options?

Things kicked off last Friday as Southern Indiana Center for the Arts presented its Friday Night Live concert with The Reunion Band.

Then Terry Lee and the Rockaboogie Band hit the stage in downtown Seymour for the annual Cars & Guitars Cruz-in fundraiser on Saturday evening.

Also that night, Brownstown Central High School served as the stage for the 38th Infantry Division Band for the first of two patriotic concerts presented by the Brownstown MelonFest committee. The second came Sunday afternoon with the Columbus City Band performing on the courthouse lawn in Brownstown.

Music can be a wonderful addition to our lives. It can trigger memories. It can stir our emotions.

Did you enjoy any or all of the shows? Be sure to thank the folks who made them possible - the organizers, the people and businesses who support them and of course the musicians who share their talents.

Be sure to check out Saturday's show at Shields Park in Seymour.

And don't forget to keep an eye on upcoming shows in the Friday Night Live series at Southern Indiana Center for the Arts.

We're fortunate to have the opportunities for live music in our communities. And as MelonFest organizer Judy Gilbert said in Monday's story about the Columbus City Band concert, we need more of these kinds of performances in Jackson County.
