This year's Relay for Life gets under way this evening at Seymour High School with a survivors' walk and continues through Saturday.

Thumbs up to the 37 percent of registered voters who went to the polls on Election Day May 6. That's certainly an improvement over the 20 percent who voted in the last presidential primary election, in May 2004. It's still a shame more people don't vote, however.

Thumbs up to Sgt. 1st Class David Swaney of Seymour, who recently presented flags to Seymour Middle School and Emerson Elementary School that flew over the camp where Indiana National Guard's 76th Infantry Brigade Combat Team is stationed in Iraq.

Thumbs up to the donors who left food for their mail carriers to pick up last weekend in the National Association of Letter Carriers' Annual Food Drive-Stamp Out Hunger Saturday event. The donated food items will be shared among food pantries in Jackson County.

Thumbs up to area churches and other organizations such as Southern Indiana Center for the Arts and Girls Inc. of Jackson County for making summer camp and Bible school plans for area youth. The activities can help brighten a summer day.
