Letter writer opposes Robo Trash, tax hike

To the Editor:

OK. Robo Trash was supposed to save our city all kinds of money. So, now, after we have spent over $1 million on this useless system, they now want to raise our property taxes 33 cents on each $100? Where did all those savings go?
Robo Trash is not liked by the majority of people in Seymour — ask them. The containers are ugly, they’re hard to handle when full and they’re not what senior citizens wanted.

Used to, when our trash was picked up, the city of Seymour then looked nice.

Now all you see after trash day is all the ugly gray containers sitting all over the town. This winter it will be a nightmare for people trying to get their trash out, in between trying to walk in the snow and ice without slipping, then trying to haul this big trash bin out to the road for pickup. And mobile home park residents, good luck. I called the Robo Trash number to talk to someone, and was given another number for my issue. I called that number, and they gave me another number. I called that number and got the mayor’s office. The mayor wasn’t in, but I was promised a phone call after Oct. 7 when the mayor would return. Still waiting.

No one took into consideration the needs of the people of Seymour for Robo Trash, or it wouldn’t have been implemented. The town meetings did no good, because the council didn’t listen to the objections. The only benefit is the sanitation department saves some money.

Now a raise in taxes. Can’t seem to win, can one?
