Thumbs up to the people who volunteer to serve on absentee voter boards. Running an election is a difficult, time-consuming process. We should keep that in mind next Tuesday, as well, and maybe thank those who serve their political parties as poll workers.

Thumbs up to Brownstown Exchange Club, Jay C Food Stores and Brownstown Police Department for staging a child safety program at the Brownstown Jay C. The program offered parents and children valuable information aimed at keeping them safe.

Thumbs up to Jackson County Child Care Network and other agencies, programs, businesses and service organizations that staged last weekend's annual Kids Fest. The event brings families together for a fun time and allows parents to see what types of services and programs are available for their children.

Thumbs up the many families, friends and co-workers who marched and walked in the recent March of Dimes March for Babies. They and their supporters raised more than $60,000 in the event at Seymour High School to benefit the fight against premature births.

Thumbs up to Seymour Fire Department for taking the Tornado House to area elementary schools. The program presents valuable information geared at keeping children and their families safe in the event of a tornado.

Thumbs up to Seymour High School students selected as Renaissance program Owls of the Month for March: Brooke Hawkins, science; Bhavyaben Patel, English as a Second Language; Cassie Davidson, social studies; Ashley  Wehmiller, home economics; Cole White, technology; Lacey Walker, art; Spencer Parrish, physical education; Brennagan Dyer, business; Adam Hamilton, English; Cory Pardieck, mathematics; Kyle Gentry, foreign language; Kraig Shutters, music; Chris McIntire, driver's education; and Amanda Stahl, agriculture.

Thumbs up to Schneck Medical Center's Doctor of the Year, Dr. Steven Windley of Seymour. Windley stresses good nutrition and physical training in his integrative medical practice.
