Thumbs up to the folks who turned out to give blood at the donor center organized by Jackson County Chapter of the American Red Cross during this year’s Seymour Oktoberfest. Another opportunity to donate blood is coming up — 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 30 at The Peoples Bank, 100 N. Main St., Brownstown.

Thumbs up to the many volunteers who made Seymour Oktoberfest a success this year. And let’s not forget the many people who attended the event and spent their money with local organizations, helping finance a number of local projects.

Thumbs up to Seymour Parks and Recreation Department for recently staging the annual Senior Games. The event brings area residents together for some fun and fellowship as they engage in a variety of activities.

Thumbs up to Kocolene Development Corp. and Ranger Enterprises LLC for allowing use of a building at Freeman Field for a training exercise staged by members of the U.S. Marine Corps from Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Thumbs up to the town of Brownstown on receiving state recognition for its efforts to safeguard the community and its environment through a variety of programs, including its procedures for dealing with spills of hazardous materials and its recycling programs.

Thumbs up to Seymour Fire Department for making educational materials and its firefighters available to area schoolchildren during National Fire Prevention Week. Firefighters offer students information about how they can stay safe should a fire break out at their home.
