Braves repeat as sectional champs

The Brownstown Central Braves are sectional champions for the second straight year.

On Saturday night in the Class 2A Sectional 47 at Paoli, the No. 1 Braves got off to a good start against No. 18 Eastern (Pekin) and held steady the whole way, leading by as much as 27 points late in the game. Brownstown won 56-31.

Taylor Wischmeier led all scorers with 22 points for the Braves, and he had a game-high nine rebounds. Spencer Allman and Cody Allman each scored nine points.

For Eastern, the leading scorer had eight points, and that was Michael Doebler.

In the finals of the Seymour Sectional, Jeffersonville pulled out the win over New Albany with a 3-pointer in the final 10 seconds that wasn't answered by the Bulldogs.

New Albany had won the last three sectionals and finished the season at 20-2, while Jeff takes a record of 20-4 into Saturday’s Seymour Regional.

Brownstown advances to play Tri-West, 65-51 winners over Speedway in the South Putnam Sectional, at 10 a.m. Saturday. That regional is hosted by Southridge at Huntingburg. Forest Park will take on South Knox in the second game that day.

Jeffersonville will take on Martinsville at 10 a.m. in Saturday's Seymour Regional, followed by Bloomington South versus Evansville Harrison.
