Owls third in Hoosier Hills Conference meet

Brownstown Central athletes captured three events to propel the Braves to a first-place finish in the Mid Southern Conference track and field meet at Corydon on Thursday night.

Seymour scored 90 points to finish third in the Hoosier Hill Conference meet at Jennings County in North Vernon. Columbus East athletes won six events to lead the Olympians to the conference title.

Braves senior Kwin Cutter won the 400-meter dash with a time of 51.72 and junior teammate Mark Crossman captured the 800-meter run with a time of 1:58.86. The Braves 1,600-relay team of Cutter, Crossman, coley Brown and Kaeler Persinger also won that event with a time of 3:33.24.

The conference title was the second in three years for the Braves and the fourth since 1990.

"We just had some outstanding performances and a lot of personal bests," Braves coach Barry Cutter said.

Cutter said the Braves are getting healthy and in good shape as they prepare for the sectional on Thursday.

Cutter said he knew heading into the meet that the Braves could finish anywhere from first to fifth.

The key to the win proved to be two seventh-place finishes and five-eighth place finishes, he said.

"That really kind of helped us out a bunch," he said.

The Owls were led by the first-place finish of sophomore Nolan Fife in the 1600 meter run.
Fife finished that event with a time of 4.30.

Seniors Marc Tormoehlen and Brett Brock also finished two and three in the 400-meter dash, and sophomore Steven Tanner was fourth in the 3200-meter run.

Junior Drew Royalty placed third in the discus with a throw of 142'0".

Tormoehlen also had a jump of 18'8-3/4" inches to place third in the long jump and junior Andrew Brock placed fourth in the shot put with a throw of 47'0-1/4".
