COLUMBUS - The Medora Hornets boys basketball team played Columbus Christian closely from the second quarter to the end on Saturday night but came up short 50-43.

The Crusaders jumped out to a 14-4 lead after one quarter of play, but Medora outscored Columbus Christian 21-14 in the second to trail 28-25 at halftime.

With it being Columbus Christian's homecoming, Hornets coach Marty Young said the team had some time to regroup and gain some momentum going into the third quarter.

But in the third, the Hornets only put up six points, compared to the Crusaders' 12. Medora outscored Columbus 12-10 in the final period, but the Crusaders were able to hold on and win.

"We didn't play that well, and if we would have played like we did Friday night (against South Decatur), we would have won," Young said.

Since Christmas break, Young said his team has been playing right below the opponent's level. On Saturday, his team fell into a 10-point deficit a couple of times, but in the fourth quarter, he said, "We fought back and got within four. It was nice to see my guys fight back."

Josh McKinney had a double-double for the Hornets with 27 points and 12 rebounds. Cory Simmons had six points.

Medora is 0-11 and will play host to Lighthouse Christian on Friday night.
