Trinity defeats Medora in Shawe Tournament

MADISON - Trinity Lutheran jumped out to a 15-2 lead on Medora late in the first period and went on to a 60-30 win Saturday night in the consolation game of the Madison Shawe Tournament.


Trinity lost to Oldenburg Academy 40-32 in the opening round, while Medora was beaten by Madison Shawe 62-22 in the opening game.


Trinity held a 15-4 lead at the end of the first period against Medora, then increased its lead to 28-13 at the half and to 53-20 after three periods.


Brandt Frische topped the Cougars in scoring with 16 points while Chad VanLiew and Tyler Gray both scored 13.


The Cougars made 21 of 62 shots from the floor, including 5 of 16 3-pointers and had 38 rebounds with VanLiew getting 10 and Gray 9.
Josh McKinney and Dillon Smith topped Medora with 8 points each.


In the opening game of the tournament, Shawe pulled ahead of Medora 13-3 after the first period and led 26-8 at the half.


Bryan Elliott and Devon Young were high scorers for Medora with 6 points each.


In the second game, Trinity held a 27-25 lead after three periods. The Twisters scored the first 5 points of the fourth period to take a 30-27 lead. The scored stayed that way for three minutes as the Cougars had turnovers on three straight possessions, and missed a shot on another possession before Oldenburg outscored Trinity 10-5 in the final three minutes.


Frische topped Trinity with 13 points.


Shawe defeated Oldenburg 42-28 in the championship game.


Trinity (1-1) will travel to Hauser Tuesday, to Switzerland County Friday and will be home to Shoals Saturday night.
Medora (0-2) will be home to Crothersville Friday night.
